I am moving to Germany tomorrow which brings me to the painful process of packing up a year’s worth of stuff into two fifty-pound bags. How do you decide which things to weed out and which to take with you. After twenty years of accumulation I am realizing that I have a lot of junk. Hardly any of which I actually need. Most of which I want. Books are proving to be the hardest decision. I’m the type of person that always has a book in my bag so picking just a couple to last me for four months (until I come home for Christmas) is not easy.
The other major problem is my climbing gear. I might actually end up wearing my helmet on the plane. I hope the pilot comes out and gives me my very own wings!
two fifty pound bags?? lucky! last i looked i get a total of 44 pounds.. maybe it’s changed i guess i better check. Good Luck out there! i’ll be joining you shortly. and if you do wear your helmet on the plane you better take a pic and post it for us!
I completely agree with you on the difficulties of choosing a book. I can’t even seem to do it for a week of vacation because what if I don’t want to read that book when I get to it?
You’ll look special with the helmet – I think you should go for it and try to “pre-board.” (In a tribute to George Carlin, “How do you board before you board?”
Anyway, have fun in Germany. Hopefully I’ll see you in October. And by then you better have taken the time to find the very best pastries!
Packing is the hardest, it is the one time that you actually stopped moving long enough to realize that you are actually going to leave. As for the climbing helmet, I believe that it is just a good idea to wear it. It is safer, it takes up less room, and hopefully the pilot dose give your wings. If nothing else the looks on your fellow fliers will be reword in of its self.
